The third season of The Masked Singer will be here before you know it, which means it's time to dust off your magnifying classes, put on your PI shoes and get ready for another season of applause-worthy performances, confusing clues, and jaw-dropping reveals.
The new season, which will premiere on Fox after the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, at 10:30 p.m. ET, promises to have the biggest celebrities and best costumes yet, including, yep, a Banana.
So who is the Banana?
As of now, there are limited clues to the creature's true identity. And by limited, we mean barely any. Fans got a very brief first glimpse at the fruity competitor in a season 3 promo that aired on Dec. 18, 2019.
In the promo video, host Nick Cannon delivers the elaborate costumes to the season 3 competitors. When he drops off the Banana, Cannon jokes that costume the celebrity picked was very "a-peal-ing." (We're not sure if the celebrity rolled their eyes because of the mask, but we wouldn't be surprised if they did.)
The Banana Clues
- The Banana possibly performs on stage (Broadway, perhaps?), as evident by the "Quiet Backstage" sign.
- The Banana may have appeared at a recent awards show (see red carpet).
The Banana Identity
With such limited clues, it's almost impossible to guess the Banana's identity at this point. That said, we can still theorize or dream about which celebrity is donning the big yellow suit.
Some Twitter fans have suggested that singer Gwen Stefani will take the stage come February. This would work with her schedule, since she is not returning to The Voice. It would also align with the costume, since Stefani taught people how to spell banana in her 2009 hit, "Holla Back Girl."
Another potential celebrity guess could be comedian Drew Lynch. Though he is not a big name, the comedian has a few million followers across YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, thanks in large part to his appearance on American's Got Talent in 2015. Additionally, a video of Lynch trying to say "banana" went viral in July 2019.
It won't be long before we have pre-performance videos to help identify the Banana and its competitors.
