Kroger gets in on duct-taped banana artwork controversy with Twitter joke 👏 - The Cincinnati Enquirer

Days after Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan's artwork went viral, Kroger has joined in on the fun.

This piece of art is literally bananas.

Cattelan duct-taped a banana to a wall as part of a display at Art Basel in Miami and then sold it for $120,000.

Kroger tweeted on Tuesday and said, "Art that can always be eaten. As low as 5 cents a bite. #FreshForEveryone."

The tweet had two emojis, one that was smiling and sticking its tongue out as well as a banana. The tweet also included a photo of a banana that was duct-taped to the wall. The banana had a blue sticker with the Kroger logo on it.

The story ended up going viral after a splitting turn of events when performance artist David Datuna peeled the banana off the wall, announced he was a hungry artist and then ate the $120,000 banana.

The banana was replaced after the incident, according to USA TODAY.

For us, the Kroger tweet was very .... ap-peeling.

Yup, we'll see ourselves out.
