An ultra-wholesome Christmas video is going viral because of a little girl's love of bananas. When a YouTuber tried to give his 2-year-old daughter the "worst Christmas gift ever," she was overcome with excitement. His surprise, her joy and the video's uplifting message have skyrocketed online just before the holiday arrives.
The video, which was first posted as a six-minute YouTube clip, gained popularity on Twitter. It was shared Thursday by the father, @iamlgndfrvr (real name Justice Mojica), and was captioned "I Tried Giving My Daughter the Worst Xmas Gift Ever & I Didn't Expect This Reaction." The Twitter version, which is just 30 seconds, shows Mojica's daughter, Aria, unwrapping a banana. Before it's entirely unwrapped, she is rejoicing over her new snack.
The child yells out "banana!" and asks her mom to open it. "Yeah, I'm happy!" she exclaims while kicking her feet in excitement. Then Aria takes a bite out of the banana with a satisfied "mmm."
While Mojica apparently didn't know what to expect when Aria opened the gift, he told USA Today she has a yen for bananas. "I could give her a cookie right now, and she'd go crazy," he said. "But she definitely loves bananas. There are random nights when she wakes up and is like, 'Banana!'"
He also said her gratitude was something of a shock. "I didn't think she would get excited for this," he said. "We knew that she was really grateful, but we were really taken back."
The tweet has over 9,000 comments and has been retweeted almost 400,000 times. It also has over 1.5 million likes on Twitter alone. The video has surfaced on other apps too, including Facebook, TikTok and Instagram.
Though Mojica makes a living sharing his life on YouTube—he has nearly 500,000 subscribers on the platform—he's only just begun showing Aria. "We actually hid her face for an entire year, but she has so much personality, even as a baby, that we started filming her, because she's a big ball of good vibes," he explained. "To have my daughter be a part of this now, it's amazing."
Most Twitter users commented positively after seeing the video on their feed and talked about its cuteness. However, some asked why Mojica would intentionally give his daughter the "worst gift ever."
This wasn't a new idea for a video, though. A similar viral video surfaced in 2015, when an uncle filmed his nephew opening an avocado for his birthday. The video, which was posted to the now-defunct video app Vine, showed the boy, Henry, responding to the odd gift by saying, "An avocado. Thanks!" It quickly went viral because of the boy's sweet reaction.
